Shubal Stearns (January 28, 1706 – November 20, 1771), was a colonial evangelist and preacher during the Great Awakening. He converted after hearing George Whitefield and planted a Baptist Church in Sandy Creek.
The Lord used many preachers trained by him to help establish the Bible Belt.
Shubal Stearns rejected the Puritans of the day. He followed the Bible in teaching the work of the Holy Spirit in the life of the individual, leading them to Christ. He taught that a true Christian was repentant of the sins and tried to abstain from them.
